How to find the best shampoo for a specific hair type?
Hair types are a bit confusing. Determining your hair type is essential for choosing the right shampoo for your hair. Although most people can distinguish between dry and oily hair, how do you know, for example, that your hair is normal?
You can find out if your hair is dry or oily by pressing a paper tissue against the top of your head so that both ends of it go behind the ears. If you find oil stains on the paper, your hair is oily, if there is no oil on the tissue, the hair is dry. Same goes for normal hair—except for normal hair you’ll find very little oil on the piece of paper. Choosing a shampoo is easy if you know your hair type – simply look for labels on the shampoos and get the product that is meant for you.
Take note of the type of your skin, too. If your skin is oily, it is most likely that your hair will be oily, and so forth. There are, however, the in-between types (slightly oily hair, etc), and if you aren’t sure about your hair type, it is best to visit a professional, because you could as well have a combined hair type (greasy and dry hair together), on which you can’t use a shampoo for normal hair. If you use a shampoo for a different hair type than yours, the hair can wear out quicker, and it can even be damaged. Use a shampoo for normal hair until you are 100% sure about your hair type.
The biggest benefit to knowing your hair type is that you can know which hair products to use; again consult a specialist if you aren’t sure about what sort of hair are yours, or what shampoo to use. Once you start taking proper care of your hair, it will look a lot healthier—and so will you!
